Most people like to make their computer look like THEIR computer. One of the simplest ways to do this is to change the desktop picture to something other than the default background. PC users are accustomed to calling this their wallpaper. But like most things PC, that doesn't really make sense if you're going to use the analogy of the desktop as your background- I mean, who puts wallpaper on their desktop!?
So, back to the task at hand... Not only have you posted pictures of your new born child all over Facebook, MySpace, sent emails to everyone you know, carry pictures with you, have a camera ready at every moment and have proven to be the most proud a mother can be- now you'd like to do what is the most natural and beautiful act of love- have your child's picture set as your desktop. Here's how you do it...
Go to the System Preferences under the Apple Menu...

Then go to the Desktop and Screen Saver preference pane...

And finally, in the left column, select the "Pictures" folder and in the window on the right, select the photo you want to set as your desktop. Of course, this is assuming that you've placed your photo in "Pictures" folder.
You should notice that you can also select photo albums from iPhoto, solid colors, have the background image change, etc. There are a few neat options to play with.
So have fun!
